So... I has a customer today. A nice, normal looking gentleman. He is asking for a worming product. I is thinking he has a kitten or a puppy or a farm and goes to recommend him some nice chocolatey squares of broad spectrum Combantrin.

I don't think I could even begin to adequately articulate the devastation occuring in Victoria at the moment, and while I know full well that devastation is not limited to this small pocket of the globe, that fact that it is so close to home is shocking and gut-wrenching and the worst kind of unbelievable.

The fact that so many of these raging fires have been deliberately lit confuses me and infuriates me to a degree I can't begin to reconcile.

The fact that most of these so called 'fire-bugs' are going to get away with what amounts to murder is a horrifying thought.

The fact that some of these fires were lit by people too fucking lazy to correctly dispose of their cigarette stubs disgusts me.

My most sincere condolences to anyone and everyone from these demolished communities and I honestly think that the camraderie, mateship and support you are all offering friends, family, neighbours and complete strangers, even in your own time of loss and devastation, is truly remarkable.

It makes me proud to be Australian. You guys make me proud to be Australian.

Some info. for those of you outside Australia. Bushfires have devastated various rural communities through-out country Victoria over the past 36 odd hours. Over 80 people are already confirmed to have perished in the fires, including whole families. One town in particular has just 10% of its buildings still standing. People burned to death attempting to defend their homes from some of the worst fires ever experienced in Australia, others died in their cars attempting to flee. The fire took anyone in its path, babies, children, parents, grandparents, hardworking farmers, national celebrities, it did not descriminate.

Ironically, in a bitter twist of fate, a few thousand kilometres north of where the fires have raged parts of Queensland are completely under water following torrential rain and flash flooding.

(And, as an aside, I strongly believe that water-bombing helicopters are the most amazing pieces of machinery I have ever seen in operation.)
